Medical Examinations

We have special arrangements to carryout HGV, PSV, Insurance, Elderly Drivers, Fitness to Travel and Employment Medicals. Please ask the receptionist for an appointment.

Cervical Smear Tests

We advise cervical smears every three years for ladies aged between 25 and 65. This can be carried out by our Practice Nurse, or the doctor.

Test Results & Collection of Specimens

Blood samples for the hospital laboratory are collected daily at 11.30am. Fasting blood tests and diabetes tests need to be taken in the morning.  However, other bloods can be taken any time of day.

All patient's records are confidential. In order to maintain confidentiality, laboratory and x-ray results will only be given to those patients who have had tests taken, or a parent if the child is under 16 years of age, when satisfactory identification has been obtained by the receptionist.

Results

Once results are received at the surgery they are signed by the doctor and then scanned into your personal notes. The approximate time for results to be received by the surgery are:

Blood samples  2-5 days

Urine samples  3-5 days

Cervical Smears  4 to 6 weeks

Xrays  10-14 days

Letters from Hospital Consultants  2 to 3 weeks

Please note, we have no control over the times it takes to receive an appointment with a hospital consultant. If you feel that the wait is unduly long, please write to them directly.
