Dr Iain Grainger

Iain hails from North Yorkshire and trained at St Andrews and Manchester. He was the first in his family to go to university.  He moved to Cumbria as a junior doctor 31 years ago and was a full-time partner in a busy 14500 patient practice in Carlisle for 20 years.  He moved to Court Thorn in 2013.

He really enjoys the life at Court Thorn and in particular the way that working here allows him to return to the old fashioned values of the traditional family GP. Having the time to provide proper personalised care, face to face, is something he values more than anything. Iain is the practices GP trainer, responsible for training the GP registrars who are attached to the practice.  He loves passing on his enthusiasm and commitment to the job to the GPs of the future.  His other areas of interest are minor surgery and joint injections.

At home Iain is married with 3 sons.  Two of whom followed him into medicine whilst the sensible one studied physics.  He enjoys cycling the lovely lanes of the Eden Valley with his wife Lavinia and in the last few years they have cycled from Carlisle to Berlin and home from London twice.  If you see them in an evening or at weekends out on the bike then he apologises in advance for the Lycra.
