Purpose:
The Eden Support Group, now in its fourth year and based in Penrith, promotes physical and social welfare of Parkinson’s Disease sufferers in the Eden valley and surrounding districts. With a membership of more than 50, it is organised by PD patients and their carers, under the Rules of its parent body, the Parkinson’s Disease Society of the UK.
Main services:
The Eden Support Group meets on the second Sunday of every second month for lunch, with a speaker and discussion, and has an active physiotherapy group that meets each Monday morning at the Friends Meeting House in Penrith. These activities are provided free of charge to members (funds permitting). The Group also aim to promote public awareness of PD by holding, during National Parkinson’s Awareness Week, each April (i) a high profile Public Lecture by an eminent medical practitioner, (ii) a street collection and drop-in information desk and (iii) a gala members luncheon.

The Rainbow Club was founded in 1978 to provide a social outlet for people with learning difficulties.

It is run entirely by volunteers, meeting at least monthly on Friday evenings in the Cumberland Hall, Ullswater Community College from 7 – 9 pm. Purpose:
Rainbow Soft Play is open to infant, young children and their families. Superb play equipment is provided for children to have fun and enjoyment.
Main services:
Rainbow Soft Play is a non-profit making venture. Sessions are facilitated by a coordinator and volunteers. All workers have completed CRB Checks. All contributions go to maintenance funding, new equipment and to subsidised outings.
Facilities include: refreshments, high chairs and seats, nappy changing facilities and childrens toilet.
